Industry and the labor movement during the Interwar years in Piraeus

The thesis examines the relationship between the industrial development and the labor movement during the Interwar years, using as a case study the city of Piraeus. The first part examines the urban industrial development based on the economic data of major industrial sectors. The second part presents the evolution of the three major representatives of the labor movement of the city (General Confederation of Greek Workers, the Center of Piraeus Labor Unions and the Communist Party of Greece) by using relevant archives. The third part focuses on the characteristics of three primary unions and two federations. Based on this research arises that the relationship between industrial development and the labor movement is inextricably linked.
